Pizza Rut

Hello PEOPLE! I hope you are all enjoying the cooler weather, it is starting to smell like fall and there are leaves everywhere… ahh… This is my favorite season.  Now that we have been in school for a few weeks, I have noticed that a lot of people (myself included) have been eating the same thing everyday for lunch and dinner.  I personally, have gotten myself into quite a bit of a pizza rut. I have eaten nothing but pizza for a few days now, and I am paying the price dearly.  I never want to look at a slice of pizza for at least a month.  Now I guess you’re asking the question: “James.. How could this predicament be avoided so that I too in the future do not develop a hatred for the delicious triangles of Italian-ness?”  Well my fellow lover of all that is delicious and triangle, the answer to your question is quite simple.  EAT SOMETHING ELSE.  Seriously. Do it.  I know it sounds like a no-brainer, but next time you go for that slice of pizza, say to yourself: “Self, I had 8 slices of this stuff yesterday didn’t I?” and go for a sandwich or a salad or some chicken.  There are a variety of foods available in the dining hall, so use this to your advantage.  Besides the fear of hating pizza the rest of your life, you really should be eating different foods because it is just plain good for you.  A balanced diet is important for everyone and it will not only make you feel better during the day, you will be more focused during class and have more energy to handle the daily hectic life of a college student.

Have a good lunch!
James (Lord of the delicious triangles of love…and cheese.)

Peaceful Protests at UML

Hello world,
Ashley in da house. Usually, my blogs are pretty light and fluffy. This blog will be a bit heavier, so read carefully and please respond with an e-mail at Ashley_Tello@student.uml.edu if you have anything you’d like to ask or say!

The Off Broadway Players, our amazing theater group on campus, is putting on “The Laramie Project.” “The Laramie Project” is the story of gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard who was brutally beaten on October 6, 1998 in Laramie, Wyoming and died six days later as a result of his injuries. The Tectonic Theater Project visited the town of Laramie one month later and returned several times over the next year to conduct interviews with the people of Laramie and those related to the story.

The Off-Broadway Players perform in the Comley-Lane Theater, located in Mahoney Hall, on UMass Lowell’s South Campus (870 Broadway Street, Lowell, MA).

SHOWS:
Thursday, October 21 @ 7:30PM – OPENING NIGHT!
Friday, October 22 @ 7:30PM
Saturday, October 23 @ 7:30PM
Sunday, October 24 @ 2:00PM
Tuesday, October 26 @ 7:30PM
Wednesday, October 27 @ 7:30PM

Tickets are $5 for students/faculty/staff, $10 for adults.

I know, you’re all thinking…what? This isn’t too much to talk about, Ash. Well, actually, there’s more.

If any of you are familiar with the Westboro Baptist Church, WBC, then you may know where this blog is leading.

The WBC is a group of people who picket certain events with hateful picketing and protest. They are scheduled to come to UMass Lowell on October 24, 1:15 – 2pm outside of Mahoney Hall to protest OBP, Pride Alliance, and Gender Studies performance of “The Laramie Project.”

PLEASE:::: DO NOT plan any sort of counter protest!! A student on campus has come up with a very PEACEFUL way to voice their opinions of the protest.

They encourage a silent, peaceful protest were anyone who is interested should wear purple  to support both Matthew and our Off Broadway Players.

For anymore information regarding this issue please refer to the Facebook event “Wear Purple for The Laramie Project.”

So, if you’d like your “voice to be heard” simply PEACEFULLY & SILENTLY attend ‘Wear Purple for The Laramie Project.’

If you cannot be there physically, wear purple wherever you are and send kind words and thoughts to the production of this show.

Remember, if you have any questions, comments, or something to add, feel free to email me!

Send love,

It’s Finally the Weekend!

I don’t know about you guys but this past week seemed like it was never going to end! So this weekend is going to be me sitting around relaxing (finally)! Although I’m not really looking forward to the weekend ending either because next week I have an Organic Chemistry exam and the week following that I have a Microbiology exam. I just got out of an exam! So if you’re ever feeling like me, completely overwhelmed with all the exams and homework make sure you utilize the things UMass Lowell has to offer such as tutoring and the library!
Tutors are students, like us, that have gotten a B+ in the class they are tutoring or better. They take the time to explain something to you that your professors may go over quickly and they will work with you until you get it!
The library is also a great place to go to study. It is always quiet and there are less things to distract you there. If you do, however, want to study with a group, you can always go up to the second or third floor because you can usually be a little bit louder up there. The library is an especially nice place to go during finals week!
Well I hope everyone has a great weekend and is prepared/preparing for any upcoming exams!

Braiiiiiiinnnnnssssss!!!!!!

Feel like your time on campus is not as exciting as it could be?  Do you feel like you need to prepare for a zombie apocalypse? Do you have class on south campus!? Then UML’s game of Humans Vs. Zombies is the game for you!  Basically this is how it works.  You all sign up at this site right here:  http://umasslowell.hvzsource.com/index.php

Once you sign up, you will either be assigned as a HUMAN (resistance) or you will be the original ZOMBIE (hord)  Humans will wear a bandanna provided by the people who run the game around their arm, and it will say HUMAN on it.  Zombies will wear the bandanna that says ZOMBIE on it on their forehead. Now, it is the humans job to stay alive by avoiding the zombies.  The humans won’t be defenseless though! All humans are allowed to have 6 seed packets on their person at all times, and if a zombie is hit by one of these packets, a zombie will become stunned for 15 minutes before he or she can attack again, giving ample time to the human to run away to a safe zone.  All indoor buildings and sidewalks will be called *safe zones* and zombies cannot maul humans while they are in the safe zones.  It is the zombies goal to eat all the humans (this is done by tagging one of them) and once a human is tagged by a zombie, they too become a zombie!!  A zombie must tag a human once every two days, otherwise the zombie will *starve* and die and not be a part of the game any more.  Now there are also special missions that humans will go on and if the succeed, then humans will be granted special items to help defend themselves against a zombie such as an extra life, or being able to not wear your bandanna for a day so zombies wont know if you’re playing or not!  On the other side, zombies also get upgrades too from time to time… but you will have to play to find out what they are!  The game is over when either all the zombies die, or all of the humans are turned into zombies. Its a great way to have fun on campus during the school day and its a great game to play with your friends, so team up, join on the site that is provided and happy hunting! (more in depth rules are provided on the site)

Good luck being the last human alive,

James (  <—  Will probably not be the last human alive)

Intramurals

Do you like:

The best way to get involved would be getting a group of friends together and making a team… Its a fun way to play sports but not at the varsity level. Don’t have enough players not a problem there are people who sign up as a free agent, and can go to any team.

Last year I tried something totally different, broom ball. What is broom ball? Think about hockey, subtract, some pads, skates, and gloves. What are you left with, sticks a helmet, a ball and a bunch of people. Thus Broom ball…..Try it!!!!!!!

Sign up for the 2nd half of intramural’s is starting SOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!

Doooooooooo iiiiittttt!!!

Like Movies?! Wondering what to do during your free time?!

Hello everyone!!!!

You have probably heard of a movie service called Netflix right!?

Well let me inform your that this is a college student’s best friend!

Why you ask!??

Well for only $8.99 a month you can receive Unlimited DVDs (one at a time of course) straight to your mailbox in your res hall! This is such a convenient way to get movies without having to leave campus.

And another great thing is the Watch Instantly feature on the website. This allows you to watch tons of moves right from your COMPUTER! There are also great TV series on there as well!!

So if you have that extra cash a month, why not go for great movies. Invite friends to your rooms and have an awesome movie night!

Enjoy!

Andy OUT!

This week has been KAAA-RAAAAYYY-ZEEE

Hello all!!
It’s Ashley!! How is everyone doing?? Well, if you couldn’t tell by the title of this blog….I’ve been going B-A-N-A-N-A-S!!!!! (Anyone else read that as Gwen Stefani?? Just wondering…)
Well, I’ve been really stressed out with school work! Everything seems to be piling up..and up…and up..and up! Not too mention the enormous pile of laundry I had to do last night.
So, I have been getting a ton of advice from others to DE-STRESS this week!

1. Breathe.
Almost everyone I’ve talked to has told me this. In through the nose, out from the mouth.
2. Take it slow, one at a time.
I’ve been trying to do too much at once, but after I broke all of my work down into steps and what needs to get done first. The load was much easier to bare.
3. Take a break.
You can’t sit there and study for 4 hours straight. You need to take small breaks to let your mind rest!! After you finish a task, a problem, or a chapter, take a few minutes to reboot or power nap!! (Naps are best in 20 minute increments…or so I’m told…I’m a fan of 2 hour naps…teehee)
4. Don’t put it off.
If you have free time between classes or earlier in the day, try and get your stuff done then so you can relax at night!! You’ll have a better night’s sleep and be ready for what tomorrow brings!
And my favorite…
5. HAVE FUN!!
Make sure you’re balancing your schedule and you have some time for YOURSELF. It’s TOTALLY IMPORTANT to be able to relax, blow off steam, goof around, and playyyy.
You’ll be a lot less like me this week if you follow these 5 easy steps!!!
And if you can’t pull yourself out of this stress, or just need someone to talk to about everything…I’ve got an idea.
Head over to the Counseling Center. It’s FREE and you can make an appointment to talk to someone outside of your personal life. It’s such a relief to talk to an outside party about what’s really going on. You can talk about classes, friends, roommates, home, relationships…ANYTHING!!! It’s an AMAZING resource that is available to ALL students.
Counseling Center

So take is easy this weekend and do something for YOU!!!!
