So, we all know that exams are around the corner, happening, happened.  Whatever it is…
This is Ben, your fellow Orientation Ambassador.
I’m here to remind you to take it easy on these stressful days.  Just remember that life isn’t all work.  We’re only given one life and we shouldn’t spend it working to the peak hours of the day and well into the dark of the night.
Don’t forget to take a step back and appreciate the world, your friends, and your life.  Take a bit of time to yourself.
You may have all the knowledge in the world.  But what use is it if you don’t even know yourself?
Have a wonderful life,
Ben

April Showers bring lots of classwork.

 DAISY HERE!

Stressed? Worried about finals coming up? Don’t be! Want to know why? Because the school is giving you ways not to be stressed out. Like how we have no classes on Monday. Did you know that? Next Monday is Patriot Day! And the week after that Spring Carnival starts! That Friday is University Day! So many awesome day offs coming up.

Now you have two choices.

1. You can either spend those days studying and making it easier for you when you actually have class.
2. You can relax. Relaxing is nice, right? It will help you to de-stress and prepare you for whatever your teachers throw at you next.

Whatever you choose, make sure it’s a good one. Don’t have a panic attack and force yourself to end up getting really sick. Remember that Health Services and the Counseling Center are there to help you whenever you need.

And guess what? So are we!

Beat the Snot Out Of The System!!!!

Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jeff here with the valuable information that you all want and need in most cases!  But first, I know you are all dying to know how I have been over this past week…don’t act like you don’t care!  Well, I have been busy with exams, as always, as well as working for admissions over the weekend.  We had our Welcome Day for all of the newly accepted students on Saturday and Sunday was spring training for Orientation!!  Super excited about that and the summer can’t come fast enough!

Now down to business…

The Beat the System event is happening tomorrow night at 8PM!  It will be in Cumnock hall and there will be a drawing for the top 20 allocation spots!  There will be a ton of different things that you can do such as make signs, bungee running, frisbee designing, Build a  Bear for the first 100 people, and much more!

DO NOT forget to sign up for advising.  It begins this week and every advisor is different so make sure you know when and where to sign up for your meeting.  Also, be sure to check ISIS for your enrollment appointment so you can get all the classes you need for next semester.  The new ISIS makes it really easy to register.  You can go on ahead of time, before your enrollment appointment, and put all of the classes you need in to a “shopping cart”.  Then, when your enrollment appointment rolls around all you have to do is open up your shopping cart and click “enroll”!  Super easy!!

Movies That Rock is alive and kickin’ and this weekend it is going to be Sherlock Holmes.  The movie will start at 8PM on Friday in O’Leary room 222 on South Campus.  Sunday at the Fox Hall Common and Monday at the ICC!  Go and relax while watching Sherlock Holmes kick some serious….bum bum

UML LOL is bringing in another comedian for the stand up series.  His name is Myq Kaplan and will be performing on Friday April 16th in Fox Hall Common at 9PM

Summer Slowly Approaching!

As everyone experienced yesterday, the summer weather is slowly but surely heading our way. That means vacation, time at home, and no stressing about classes. As exciting as all this may be, you also need to keep an eye on your finances. Summer is the perfect time to save up money so you’ll have more time to study during the semesters.

Minimum wage jobs at food chain stores and malls may be fun, but they are not ideal: especially for college students. This is when your lovely recources at UML come into play! Career Services is offering a a career fair on Wednesday, April 14 from 1 PM – 4 PM.

Representatives from many local companies will be there looking for full time employees and also students interested in summer internship and co-op oppertunites. AND, it may even count as credits toward your major, cutting down on required work during the semester.

What you need:

  • Dress professionally: it will show that you are serious about wanting a the position in the company
  • Bring many copies of your resume: Even if you aren’t interested in an internship or co-op this summer, employers will track your progress through school. Turning in your resume this year will give you a leg up on the competition in the future
  • A positive attitude: There will be many prospect employers there as well as many prospect employees. Having a positive attitude will make you stick out in their minds.

For more information, contact career services in Southwick 200.

Keepin’ Cool on this Hot Day.

Hello All!
Ben here!  So word on the street is that it’s going to be particularly warm tomorrow.  I like that.  I like warm.  Question is, what do we do about it?
WELL, I have a few AWESOME ideas!
First of all, plan some events to do outside. OUTSIDE!  Yes!  Perhaps play a nice game kickball or even FRISBEE!
Anything to get active.  We’ve been stuck inside for way too long.  You could even get a slip and slide going under permission of the RA’s or RD’s to get the water source.
All of this running around has gotten people really thirsty, though.  What do we do?
HOW ABOUT CUCUMBER DRINKS?!
Sure, it sounds weird at first.  But look at this picture!
It looks delicious!
It’s easy to make too.
Just take…
-a pitcher of water,
-3-4 slices of lime, lemon, or oranges,
-3-4 slices of cucumber
-1-2 fresh sprigs of mint
Mix it all together and let it set for a while in a fridge before enjoying.
Make it now so it’ll be ready for tomorrow! 😀
ENJOY THE WEATHER!
-Ben

Bring on the Spring!

What up?!?!,

Jeff here for your weekly dose of “what’s up with Jeff”.  Well…I’ll tell ya!  I have been pretty busy with exams and what not.  It seems like they never endddddddddddd….see what I did there?!  Anyway, that’s pretty much my life right now so nothing too exciting but on the subject of exams, make sure ya’ll are keepin’ up with your work and maintaining your grades.

Cut the serious stuff you say?!?!  Alright fine…

Keep your eyes peeled for flyers in your department buildings and your e-mails to see when your advising starts.  It’s coming up quick so get on it!

Tonight, in the Fox Hall Common, there is a Red Sox Nation event going on put on by Student Activities and Leadership.    It starts at 7PM and there will be free hot dogs and soda, so go and watch the game…unless your studying obviously then that would be counter-productive now wouldn’t it?

The MEISA/VPAC music series is going on and Thursday night at 8PM there will be a concert in the Fox Hall Common.  It will be featuring some campus bands as well as some other Boston based bands so go and enjoy some good music!!

And my weekly Movies That Rocks plug?  Here it is…

This weekend, starting Friday night at 7PM, The Blindside will be premiered in O’Leary Library at 8PM.  On Sunday it will be in Fox Hall Common and Monday at the ICC all at 7PM!  Be sure to check it out and relax after a harsh week of studying and chaos.

One more thing about different events…Friday, April 16th UML LOL is presenting Myq Kaplan, a stand up comedian who has done shows on Comedy Central and was announced in 2008 as the comedian of the year.  So come and check him out at the Fox Hall Common at 9PM for a good laugh!

Alrighty I’m Done,
