The Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2) will be hosting the 2015 New Venture Competition Showcase Event on Wednesday, April 1, 2015. Novel medical device technologies will be presented, followed by a poster and networking session.

This event will feature presentations and posters by medical device start-up companies and inventors, featuring new medical device design inventions that have been submitted to the 2015 M2D2 New Venture Competition. The presenting finalists will compete for a chance to win a total of $100,000 in services which include: Product Development, Business Development, Medical Development and laboratory space from M2D2, legal services from Mintz Levin, and services from Smith & Nephew, Boston Scientific and Omni Components.

M2D2 Based Startup Awarded $17 Million in Equity Funding

LOWELL — A medical-device startup developed within UMass Lowell’s M2D2 community said this week that it has landed $17 million in equity funding.

InfoBionic Inc., a startup that provides patient monitoring for chronic-disease management, intends to use the funds to pay for the commercialization of its flagship product, the MoMe System, according to CEO Nancy Briefs.

March Madness Spreads to the Medical Device Community!

M2D2 is hosting a medical device startup tournament that will find Massachusetts’ best new medical device ventures – and award thousands of dollars worth of services for product development.

Who is Eligible

The M2D2 New Venture Competition is open to medical device technology-based startup businesses located in Massachusetts. The venture must involve the development of a new medical device.

Competition Details and DeadlinesFirst Round: Entries are due by 5 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013.

  • Entry Applications and executive summaries must be submittedvia emailto m2d2@uml.edu by 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2013. Entry Applications are available at http://www.uml.edu/m2d2 (navigate to the events page). There is a $25 entry fee. Applicants will be judged by a team of medical device experts.
    • Finalists will be chosen from the pool of applicants and notified by February 16, 2013.

Second Round: Detailed M2D2 New Venture application formsare due on Friday, March 15, 2012 and applicants who advance to this round will give presentations on Wednesday, March 27, 2012.

  • The finalists will be invited to submit a detailed M2D2 New Venture application form by 5 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2012.
  • The finalists also will be required to present before a panel of expert judges at M2D2 on March 27, 2012 beginning at 6 p.m. The presentations will be a maximum of 5 minutes in length and followed by a brief Q&A session with the judges.

Winners’ Ceremony – April 10

  • Three winners will be selected. The winners and award amounts will be announced in April at the Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP offices located at Seaport West, 155 Seaport Boulevard, Boston, MA.
