Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP and The Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2) will be hosting the New Venture Competition Awards on Wednesday, April 10, 2013.

Thisevent will feature the Awardees of the New Venture Competition Showcase. Posters by Medical Device start-up companies and inventors will be featuring new medical design inventions that have been submitted to the M2D2 New Venture Competition tournament.

Thefinalistshave competed for a chance to win a total of $20,000 in prizes consisting of $10,000 in M2D2 Services including: Engineering Services, Business School Services and Medical School Services and $10,000 in Legal Services from Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP. Come see the new medical device ventures that have been selected by a panel of judges.

This Event is for Inventors, Entrepreneurs & Small Businesses as well as investors in the medical device industry.

This event is free of charge for everyone!

What are the deadlines? How do you fill out the applications?What are the entry fees? Whom can apply?

This information session will review guidelines and criteria for the Second New Venture Competition, offer resources and tips on writing the application and answer any questions you might have about entering the competition. The information session will be lead by M2D2 Director, Stephen McCarthy.

Some information regarding the M2D2 Second New Venture Competition.

  • First Round: Entries are due by 5:00p.m., February 1, 2013.
  • Finalists will be chosen and notified by February 15, 2012.
  • Second Round Applications due on Friday, March 1, 2013.
  • Finalist Presentations Wednesday, March 27, 2013.
  • Winner’s Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013.
Prizes – $20,000

2nd Annual M2D2 New Venture Competition

March Madness Spreads to the Medical Device Community!

M2D2 is hosting a medical device startup tournament that will find Massachusetts’ best new medical device ventures – and award thousands of dollars worth of services for product development.

Who is Eligible

The M2D2 New Venture Competition is open to medical device technology-based startup businesses located in Massachusetts. The venture must involve the development of a new medical device.

Competition Details and DeadlinesFirst Round: Entries are due by 5 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013.

  • Entry Applications and executive summaries must be submittedvia emailto m2d2@uml.edu by 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2013. Entry Applications are available at http://www.uml.edu/m2d2 (navigate to the events page). There is a $25 entry fee. Applicants will be judged by a team of medical device experts.
    • Finalists will be chosen from the pool of applicants and notified by February 16, 2013.

Second Round: Detailed M2D2 New Venture application formsare due on Friday, March 15, 2012 and applicants who advance to this round will give presentations on Wednesday, March 27, 2012.

  • The finalists will be invited to submit a detailed M2D2 New Venture application form by 5 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2012.
  • The finalists also will be required to present before a panel of expert judges at M2D2 on March 27, 2012 beginning at 6 p.m. The presentations will be a maximum of 5 minutes in length and followed by a brief Q&A session with the judges.

Winners’ Ceremony – April 10

  • Three winners will be selected. The winners and award amounts will be announced in April at the Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP offices located at Seaport West, 155 Seaport Boulevard, Boston, MA.

Prizes

A total of $20,000

$10,000 in M2D2 Services will be awarded, including:

  • Engineering Services (prototyping, etc.)
  • Business School Services (business plans, market development, etc.)
  • Medical School Services

Jeremy Halpern is a partner in the Business Department and the Director of Business Development for the Emerging Companies Group at Nutter, McClennen & Fish LLP. Jeremy’s practice focuses on private equity, venture capital, and angel financing transactions, mergers and acquisitions, equity and entrepreneurial compensation matters, and general start-up support. As a former entrepreneur, Jeremy spends a large portion of his time on behalf of the firm, connecting with and supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem in New England.

Concurrently, Jeremy serves on the Board of The Capital Network and on the Board of Directors of MassVentures, the venture capital arm of the Commonwealth. Jeremy is also a Professor of Entrepreneurial Leadership at Tufts University, a Connector in the Boston World Partnership, and a proud co-founder of BostonIDEA (helping the entrepreneurship community in the Innovation District build relationships), and of MassApps (a mobile application development competition leveraging public data).
