Welcome!

This course is taught as an advanced elective, and will take place in the spring semester of 2019.

Through readings, research and photography students will continue developing their visual storytelling skills by exploring ties between the large Azorean community in Lowell, Mass. and the mid-Atlantic islands they left behind in the 20th century.

You can also read blogs from previous trips to Portugal listed below or from other destinations across the globe UMass Lowell students travel to.

Lagoa das Sete Cidades is a twin lake situated in the crater of a dormant volcano on the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. It consists of two small, ecologically different lakes connected by a narrow strait, which is crossed by a bridge.
