{"id":61,"date":"2015-09-17T22:02:00","date_gmt":"2015-09-18T03:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/orientation-ambassadors\/2015\/09\/17\/libraries-one-of-your-greatest-resources\/"},"modified":"2015-09-17T22:02:00","modified_gmt":"2015-09-18T03:02:00","slug":"libraries-one-of-your-greatest-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/orientation-ambassadors\/2015\/09\/17\/libraries-one-of-your-greatest-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Libraries : One of Your Greatest Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: center\">Hey everyone!<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">&nbsp;As we continue to buckle down into school work, I thought I&#8217;d share some information about my tried and true study spots; O&#8217;Leary and Lydon Library!<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">As each library is so big, this post will be on O&#8217;Leary Library, and there will be a second one next week all about Lydon.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">(Disclaimer: I&#8217;m probably terribly biased towards O&#8217;Leary as a study spot, since I had a Work Study Job there for 4 semesters and 2 summers)<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-IuqenYdxpoo\/Vft-ExdpBeI\/AAAAAAAAA_g\/Iwo3C7xPWjA\/s1600\/12021880_10207403951887288_1666719016_n.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-IuqenYdxpoo\/Vft-ExdpBeI\/AAAAAAAAA_g\/Iwo3C7xPWjA\/s320\/12021880_10207403951887288_1666719016_n.jpg\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">It&#8217;s a wonderful rule of thumb to assume that the higher up in the library you are, the quieter the studying is expected to be. &nbsp;This means that the first floor is available for group study, furnished with couches, chairs, white boards, computers (both Mac and PC) and individual study rooms with white boards and monitors. &nbsp;(These can also be signed out via the Dibs! System). &nbsp;As long as you are using an indoor voice, you probably won&#8217;t be shushed by a librarian.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-AghN9A033iI\/Vft-L9d4IpI\/AAAAAAAAA_o\/ZTrt_VMB4dM\/s1600\/12016519_10207403951687283_1226595221_n.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-AghN9A033iI\/Vft-L9d4IpI\/AAAAAAAAA_o\/ZTrt_VMB4dM\/s320\/12016519_10207403951687283_1226595221_n.jpg\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">On the mezzanine floor, there are numerous tables and outlets for study. &nbsp;A quiet conversation would be accept, but any louder than that would be inconsiderate to your fellow students.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-U4AKXxBY7oI\/Vft-RT1KaqI\/AAAAAAAAA_w\/McM4AOL5IPs\/s1600\/11998047_10207403951087268_1916877791_n.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-U4AKXxBY7oI\/Vft-RT1KaqI\/AAAAAAAAA_w\/McM4AOL5IPs\/s320\/11998047_10207403951087268_1916877791_n.jpg\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">On the forth floor, there&#8217;s an array of tables, desks, and comfy chairs spread out for study, both in and out of the stacks, computers, and a scanner, as well as the majority of the books in the library. Anything more than a whisper, and you&#8217;ll be sure to get a librarian&#8217;s attention.<\/p>\n<p>There are also numerous areas throughout the library to curl up and study, on almost every floor.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">However, there are tons of other resources available at O&#8217;Leary Library!<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-rrj3kcrzrnQ\/Vft-XBG0jFI\/AAAAAAAAA_4\/QrK1yWaaotU\/s1600\/12041947_10207403951967290_640168699_n.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-rrj3kcrzrnQ\/Vft-XBG0jFI\/AAAAAAAAA_4\/QrK1yWaaotU\/s320\/12041947_10207403951967290_640168699_n.jpg\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">Located on the first floor is the Reference Desk, Career Counseling, and the Centers for Learning, all available to aid you in being as successful as possible. &nbsp;The Starbucks nestled in the first floor, to make sure you are as awake as possible.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">On &nbsp;the second floor is the Media Services, with computers and available equipment for video, audio, and photography projects. &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-NkqD62z2NRU\/Vft-cA5Nw9I\/AAAAAAAABAA\/Drf3S-qxG2M\/s1600\/12041901_10207403951527279_1288799745_n.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-NkqD62z2NRU\/Vft-cA5Nw9I\/AAAAAAAABAA\/Drf3S-qxG2M\/s320\/12041901_10207403951527279_1288799745_n.jpg\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">Located on the third floor is the Honors College, available for those who would like to up their education to the next level.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-fRz3D5IOktk\/Vft-u_fWULI\/AAAAAAAABAI\/sPAyx1ic5TU\/s1600\/12033519_10207403950927264_314834503_n.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em;margin-right: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-fRz3D5IOktk\/Vft-u_fWULI\/AAAAAAAABAI\/sPAyx1ic5TU\/s320\/12033519_10207403950927264_314834503_n.jpg\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">On the fourth floor, is the English Department, along with all the books pertaining to the Fine Arts Health, and Social Sciences, as well as a collection of 10000+ CDs (just go to the desk and ask for the CD Binder!) &nbsp;This is also the location of any books your professors have out on reserve, adn where you would pick up any Inter Library Loan books.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">This may be a lot to take in, but give it a go, and you might find O&#8217;Leary to be one of the most integral and useful parts of campus life.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">If you want to know more about O&#8217;Leary, or check their hours, go to<br \/>http:\/\/libweb.uml.edu\/oleary<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">-Kelsey<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hey everyone! &nbsp;As we continue to buckle down into school work, I thought I&#8217;d share some information about my tried and true study spots; O&#8217;Leary and Lydon Library!
