Many new students sign up for courses simply based on their names or easiness, which is fine if they fit into your specific curriculum, but be sure to stay on track. While many majors have room for free electives- classes not necessarily required to take that fulfill credits- you must, must, must take required classes. Your advisors can help you plan out all your future semesters to ensure that you are staying on track.

In addition, advisors can also help you obtain internships or jobs related to your field, offer general advice about your major, and answer general questions about UML.

Many colleges try to enforce advising for numerous reasons.
