This event was nothing short of successful. We had 4 point-of-care innovators pitch their devices, a fireside chat that sparked meaningful conversation, and numerous opportunities to network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/m2d2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/07\/1718904845903.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/m2d2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/07\/1718904845903.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2522\" width=\"584\" height=\"389\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Jeanne Leclair addresses CAPCaT crowd.  <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>During opening remarks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/david-mcmanus-9768b750\/\">David McManus<\/a>, Chair of Medicine at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/school\/umasschan\/\">UMass Chan Medical School<\/a> and UMass Memorial Health System, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jeanneleclair\/\">Jeanne LeClair<\/a>, acting CEO of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/massachusetts-life-sciences-center\/\">Massachusetts Life Sciences Center<\/a>, both commented on how the innovations created are not only helping patients in the Commonwealth, but also creating a positive impact on global healthcare. The speakers highlighted how continued investments in capital equipment and incubator and accelerator spaces are making Massachusetts \u201cone giant incubator\u201d where startups can advance their groundbreaking innovations and truly make a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Listening in on how to \u201cBecome Investor-Ready\u201d fireside chat.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/m2d2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/07\/1718904905126.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/m2d2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/07\/1718904905126.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2523\" width=\"569\" height=\"379\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Dr. Margaret Koziel guided the discussion with (from left) Paul Rabinovich, Hirak Parikh, and Anthony Aiudi.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember1243\">The fireside chat \u201cBecoming Investor Ready\u201d dove into how you can become an effective founder, strategies for creating a durable competitive advantage, and providing a service not just a solution, when it comes to creating a startup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember1244\">We heard from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/anthonyaiudi\/\">Anthony Aiudi<\/a> from Morningside, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/hparikh\/\">Hirak Parikh<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/johnson-&amp;-johnson\/\">Johnson &amp; Johnson<\/a> Innovation, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/paul-rabinovich-6661a953\/\">Paul Rabinovich<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/lexington-medical-inc-\/\">Lexington Medical, Inc<\/a> and founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/nota-laboratories-llc\/\">NOTA Laboratories<\/a>. Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/margaret-koziel-md\/\">Margaret Koziel<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/boston-pharmaceuticals\/\">Boston Pharmaceuticals<\/a> facilitated the fireside chat and raised important discussion topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember1249\">They discussed what early investors need to ask themselves, especially when there is a lot of unknown. The panelists all emphasized:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The importance of having a founder and strong team that wants to learn<\/li><li>Using money and time in the most efficient way possible<\/li><li>Keeping patient-wellbeing in mind while balancing the need to expedite product delivery.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Four innovators pitched their groundbreaking point of care technologies.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember1252\">Leaders from Daxor, Huckleberry Labs, RizLab Health, and WellLinks pitched their innovations at the 5th CAPCaT Showcase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember1253\">CEO &amp; President of <a href=\"https:\/\/daxor.com\/\">Daxor<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/michael-feldschuh-88b4b\/\">Michael Feldschuh<\/a>, pitched the point-of-care heart failure diagnostic that allows the amount of fluid to be measured in blood vessels. Julia provided key information on the resources the NIH offers. She discussed the benefits of the SBIR\/STTR programs, career-changing funding opportunities, and the mission and objectives of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The NHLBI accelerates the translation of discoveries and innovations into new biomedical products that service the heart, blood, and lungs, and sleep diseases and disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/m2d2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/07\/1718907845614.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/m2d2\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2024\/07\/1718907845614.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2528\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Julia Berzhansakaya sharing NIH funding resources.  <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember1270\">The NIH-funded UMass CAPCaT program provides startups access to important funding opportunities and resources that help advance their technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember1271\">Thank you to all who joined us for this year\u2019s event.
