{"id":1163,"date":"2017-12-11T23:03:58","date_gmt":"2017-12-11T23:03:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/differencemaker\/?p=1163"},"modified":"2017-12-11T23:03:58","modified_gmt":"2017-12-11T23:03:58","slug":"2017-fahss-creative-venture-competiton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/differencemaker\/2017\/12\/11\/2017-fahss-creative-venture-competiton\/","title":{"rendered":"2017 FAHSS Creative Venture Competiton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, December 6th, the Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Creative Venture Competition was held. Students, faculty, and spectators piled into Room 222 of O&#8217;Leary Library to get a glimpse of students brilliant ideas. Student teams presented in front of a panel of esteemed judges who then chose their favorite idea.<\/p>\n<p>To kick off the event, Dean\u00a0Luis M. Falc\u00f3n introduced all the judges and a little bit about them.<\/p>\n<p>Judges included: Glenn Morgan,\u00a0a graduate of the University of Lowell, who then went on to become the\u00a0founder and CEO of Skyworld interactive until he sold his share in the business last year. He is now full-time consulting on mergers and acquisitions, operations, digital services and account profitability for New England\u2019s leading full-service ad agencies;\u00a0Jack Ford, a graduate of Lowell State College where he earned degrees in Education and History, and eventually completed his masters at Clark University. Jack currently\u00a0is the principal at JF3 consulting, which provides strategy and acquisition consulting to corporate clients. Lastly,\u00a0Danielle McFadden, a graduate of UMass Lowell in 2007, who is now\u00a0the President of the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce and has been for over 6 years now.<\/p>\n<p>The first team to present was a one member team of\u00a0Lindsay MacDonald, a Senior Psychology major, with her idea, Mindsense, an<em>\u00a0<\/em>&#8220;educational social service that provides schools with mindfulness training using an organic community-based approach to grow an environment of mindfulness in the educational setting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Next was Team Personalized Learning. Personalized Learning&#8217;s members included\u00a0Daniel Falcone,\u00a0ManojReddy Dumpa,\u00a0Tejaswini Gaddam,\u00a0Troy Lamontagne,\u00a0Michael Nelson,\u00a0Daniel Santos,\u00a0Karansinh Thakor, and\u00a0KavyaKumar Vallurupalli. Their idea is\u00a0&#8220;a web platform that utilizes psychology and adaptive matchmaking that gives recommendations to students based on their personality, learning styles and study habits to find the optimal professor for every class they need to take.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The next team to present was Team Project Pace. The team included members\u00a0Matthew Chigas,\u00a0Brenna Ambrose,\u00a0Kyle Cooper,\u00a0Daniel Gonzalez,\u00a0Matthew Levenson, and\u00a0Colleen Silva. Project Pace pitched an idea for\u00a0an &#8220;online platform for young people to discuss uncomfortable topics surrounding extremism. The platform provides tailored educational contents to a target audience of 13 to 25-year-olds to provide them with tools they need to counter misinformation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, Team App Development pitched their idea of\u00a0&#8220;an online platform with people with similar interests, race, career, pass, religion etc. can become connected. The platform primarily targets individuals who are new to a city, people who are postgraduate and are looking to build relationships and attend different activities in the community.&#8221; App Developments members included\u00a0Bethsaida Saint-Vil, Information Technology, Graduate and\u00a0Shamilah Ulysse, Education Administration, Graduate.<\/p>\n<p>First place with a $5,000 prize went to Project Pace!! <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/differencemaker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/12\/24879640_1725271694185373_7479217257671519672_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1165\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/differencemaker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/12\/24879640_1725271694185373_7479217257671519672_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/differencemaker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/12\/24879640_1725271694185373_7479217257671519672_o.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/differencemaker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/12\/24879640_1725271694185373_7479217257671519672_o-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/differencemaker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/12\/24879640_1725271694185373_7479217257671519672_o-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/differencemaker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/12\/24879640_1725271694185373_7479217257671519672_o-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/differencemaker\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/12\/24879640_1725271694185373_7479217257671519672_o-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thank you to everyone for coming and to all the teams who participated!
