{"id":287,"date":"2014-06-13T17:50:41","date_gmt":"2014-06-13T22:50:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/costarica2014\/?p=287"},"modified":"2014-06-13T17:50:41","modified_gmt":"2014-06-13T22:50:41","slug":"healthcare-in-costa-rica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/costarica2014\/2014\/06\/13\/healthcare-in-costa-rica\/","title":{"rendered":"Healthcare in Costa Rica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes you just have to experience it to believe it.\u00a0 A day and half ago I came down with a stomach virus so bad the hotel had to call a doctor.\u00a0 I was amazed to understand this doctor was willing to come to the hotel within 45 minutes.\u00a0 He arrived and asked me many questions about where I\u2019ve been and what I ate, followed by the typical sick visit events, blood pressure, temperature, etc.\u00a0 He explained the diagnosis and prescribed me medications using only my first name, which I noticed after was misspelled.\u00a0 He hand wrote the receipt for payment, packed up his medical bag and wished me well.\u00a0 Professor Lewis was able to fill my prescriptions at the local pharmacy without any issues.<\/p>\n<p>Never would I ever have expected a doctor to still make house calls, prescribe medication with minimal personal information and let a non-family member to pick it up.
