It had rows upon rows of old wine casks. After the tour, we got to do a wine tasting. They gave us 5 different types of wine, each with a different flavor. I learned that day that wine is definitely an acquired taste for some, including myself.

These barrels have been aging for years with inscriptions of when they were cast and by whom.

We tried 5 different flavors of wine here going from bitter to sweet. They are maintained every night by garbage collectors, so there is never any trash on the sand. The water was the perfect temperature for a swim and a beautiful blue. Every evening, the sunset on the beach was a sight to see. I’ve never seen anything like it where I’m from.

Sunset from aboard a cruise boat.

Sunset from the beach

Cooking in Cádiz

During our trip, we got the chance to do a cooking class. We made a traditional Spanish dish called paella. It is made with rice, meat (usually seafood), and an assortment of veggies. We all helped to make the dish, and we even made sangria on the side. It was very delicious, and I now want to attempt to make it at home.

Artwork from the cooking class

The paella we made, along with a vegetarian version on the right.

The Cathedral of Cádiz

One of our stops in our study abroad was the Cathedral of Cádiz. It is a huge structure that overlooks the entire city. The interior is restructured to be a museum retelling its history. It contains many old artifacts and very realistic dioramas. The view from the top of the cathedral is unmatched. It is the best view in the city and you can really see the intricate and historical design of the city from above.

Exterior of the cathedral

View from above the cathedral

Reflection

Cádiz is a beautiful city with much to explore. There is great food, and even better people. The views are amazing, and I will always remember those beaches.
