{"id":133,"date":"2017-07-03T05:57:34","date_gmt":"2017-07-03T10:57:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/belfast-2017\/?p=133"},"modified":"2017-07-03T05:57:34","modified_gmt":"2017-07-03T10:57:34","slug":"the-travel-bug","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/belfast-2017\/2017\/07\/03\/the-travel-bug\/","title":{"rendered":"The Travel BUG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve definitely been bit by the travel bug&#8230;in more than one way.<\/p>\n<p>Getting sick while traveling is a challenge but understanding the right measures will get you feeling good as new and ready for your next adventure!<\/p>\n<p>As I headed off on my first backpacking journey during my 3 weeks off in April, \u00a0I felt the first signs of a cold. I ignored my stuffed up nose and headed off on my adventure!<\/p>\n<p>Well, my cold followed me all around Europe and 10 countries.<\/p>\n<p>After my 5th stop Berlin and with 10 days left of my trip &#8211; I could no longer ignore my stuffed up nose that had turned into what felt like the plague.<\/p>\n<p>By trial and error I soon discovered I had walking Pneumonia\u00a0&#8211; emphasis on the WALKING, as we were covering about 16-20 miles every day with sight seeing and traveling.<\/p>\n<p>As I was only in each country for 2-3 days I had to do with holistic and over the counter remedies.<\/p>\n<p>The neon green cross is common symbol for pharmacy and are found in abidance\u00a0in all major cities! \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-146\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/belfast-2017\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2017\/07\/pl377243-china_rf_bluetooth_controller_p16_outdoor_green_pharmacy_led_signs_cross-300x298.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/belfast-2017\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2017\/07\/pl377243-china_rf_bluetooth_controller_p16_outdoor_green_pharmacy_led_signs_cross-300x298.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/belfast-2017\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2017\/07\/pl377243-china_rf_bluetooth_controller_p16_outdoor_green_pharmacy_led_signs_cross-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/belfast-2017\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2017\/07\/pl377243-china_rf_bluetooth_controller_p16_outdoor_green_pharmacy_led_signs_cross-302x300.jpg 302w, https:\/\/blogs.uml.edu\/belfast-2017\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2017\/07\/pl377243-china_rf_bluetooth_controller_p16_outdoor_green_pharmacy_led_signs_cross.jpg 465w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In countries with language barriers, I utilized google translate to fully detail my symptoms and the employees were able to give me accurate over the counter medicine. \u00a0As I was only in each country for 2-3 days, I had to do with holistic and over the counter remedies to get me through the rest of my trip until I returned to Belfast.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On my return to Belfast, I headed down to the student health center.<\/p>\n<p>I filled out some paperwork to enroll in the National Health Service.<\/p>\n<p>Although, the healthcare is free and I received amazing care &#8211; I waited two days to get an appointment which in the middle of finals and facing a month long illness can be exhausting.<\/p>\n<p>After a round of antibiotics\u00a0and some rest &#8211; \u00a0I was ready for my next adventure!<\/p>\n<p>Getting sick while abroad can be stressful but taking a moment to rest and get the care you need will get you back on track.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>**If you are facing a life threatening emergency ALWAYS prioritize your health before travel plans**<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve definitely been bit by the travel bug&#8230;in more than one way.
