But it\u2019s probably the highest-ranking self-care task you can do for yourself. Some good news: UML\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uml.edu\/campusrecreation\/about-us\/facilities\/campus-recreation-center.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Campus Recreation Center<\/a> (a.k.a. CRC or the Campus Rec Center) has you covered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Certified Functional Strength Coach and CRC Fitness Instructor,\nRebecca Olivieri (who is also working on Ph.D. in Physical Therapy at UML),\nrecorded herself doing a fitness routine with everyday household items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t have a full gym in your house? <em>No problem<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Rebecca\u2019s DIY gym is fantastic. You\u2019ll be able to get your heart rate going\u2014easy-peasy\u2014with these five exercises that target your core, legs and arms. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our videographer, Alfonso, spruced up the video so you could follow along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<!-- iframe plugin v.4.4 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/bcove.video\/3ew0JVa\" width=\"100%\" height=\"500\" scrolling=\"yes\" class=\"iframe-class\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>Staying active with household items: The Routine<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are five exercises in this routine. Do each exercise\n12 times before moving on to the next one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you finish 12 reps of all five exercises, rest for 60 seconds. This should be an active rest for recovery\u2014don\u2019t come to a complete stop. You don&#8217;t need to do anything intense\u2014light movement will work (walk around a bit, step side to side, etc.). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should work through the routine three times all\ntogether. <strong>Obviously, only workout within\nyour comfort range and ability\u2014don\u2019t feel bad about doing less reps or taking a\nlonger break after you finish the five exercises.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>1. Single Arm Swings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What you\u2019ll need: <\/em>A jug of laundry detergent<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>How many reps: 12<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>2. Backpack Squats<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What you\u2019ll need: <\/em>Your\nbackpack filled with some textbooks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>How many reps: 12<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>3. Backpack Good\nMornings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What you\u2019ll need: <\/em>Your\nbackpack filled with some textbooks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>How many reps: 12<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>4. Canned Food High\nPlank Stacking<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What you\u2019ll need: <\/em>Two\ncans of food<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>How many reps: 12<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>5.
